This is from my Spirit of ‘74 series from back in 2019.
I’m joined by Dunstan Bentley, fellow supporter of Queens Park Rangers FC of West London.
Dunstan and I met as members of QPR NYC, a New York based supporters group of Queens Park Rangers, a second division football club in London.
My fandom of QPR and association with this particular group are one of the pleasant surprises of my early (and now mid) middle age. They are quite simply my best friends though since I moved away from New York I’m lucky to see each other two or three times a year.
We keep in constant contact on a Facebook Messenger chat that has been going since 2017. I downloaded it once and the PDF was close to 30,000 pages long. We talk about everyday, about everything. Soccer of course, but also politics, food, culture, film, music and family life.
