The fourth in my podcast series rerun The Spirit of ‘74, in which I talk to journalists, actors, athletes and regular folk born in same year I was about sports fandom.
This week, it’s former Lakers, Celtics and Knicks center Travis Knight.
Travis and I both arrived on the campus of the University of Connecticut in August of 1992, and in February of the following year I attended my first basketball game, a nationally televised affair with Florida State (Sam Cassell, Bobby Sura and Charlie Ward’s Florida State) for which I made a sign that said “It’s Knight Time” because I was very normal and cool even then.
This is my attempt to talk to Travis about why one white kid might root for another white kid (at the time a role player) instead of the other (sorry Travis) much cooler, players like Scott Burrell or Donyell Marshall.
All I can say in terms of how it went is that he didn’t hang up on me. Those were different times.
